Precautionary closure of the Ladridos pet shop
The district of Nou Barris has issued an urgent order for the precautionary cease of activity at the Ladridos pet shop and sealed off the premises. The measure comes after a first inspection was carried out last week and detected serious breaches. The closure comes in addition to the penalty proceedings currently being brought under the by-law on the protection, ownership and sale of animals.
The inspection sought to ensure compliance with regulations on facilities at the shop and the health requirements of the puppies on sale: not to be under 8 weeks old, not to spend more than 3 weeks in the shop, to have had all vaccinations required and proper veterinary care
In addition to the infringements detected by the City Police and the Department for the Management and Protection of Animals, a series of new denouncements have now been made from people who came forward upon seeing the news and affirmed they had also bought sick animals from the shop.
Similar case in L’Eixample
At the same time, the Eixample district office is finalising proceedings to cease activity at the Bitxets shop for the same reasons. The case was brought after animal protection services and the City Police carried out an inspection in December, confiscating 34 puppies.
Nine shops have been closed down since 2013 for non-compliance with the by-law on the protection, ownership and sale of animals, with over 900 animals confiscated.
