An international meeting-point for new drama

Sala Beckett / Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia finally disembarks at its new building in Barcelona's Poblenou neighbourhood with an annual event that, over the years, has become a key international meeting-point for new drama.

For a week, playwrights, directors, performers and artists in general will take part in wide range of courses, seminars, dramatised readings, talks, works-in-progress and pocket shows. All with the aim of encouraging debate and exchanges of ideas amongst authors from different countries.

This year, the theme of power will provide food for thought and inspiration at many of the workshops and activities scheduled. This “summer workshop” will be attended by such renowned professionals and playwrights as Neil Labute (USA), Martin Crimp and Simon Stephens (UK), Gabriela Izcovich (Argentina), Marie Dilasser (France), Bogdan Georgescu (Romania), Marco Calvani (Italy) and José Sanchis Sinisterra (Spain), as well as such Catalan professionals as Roger Bernat, Pere Riera and Glòria Balañà i Altimira, amongst others.

The journalist Carles Capdevila will open this year’s event open this year with a theatrical lecture about power and the way it operates.
