A Catalan-Canadian co-production about the discovery of uranium. The play asks: Did the bomb that ripped a hole in the sky forever tear us apart, or can it somehow bring us together?
In the late 1880’s, in the land of the Dene Nation in Northern Canada, a Dene seer had a burning vision. He sang about strange white men digging rock from their land, taking it faraway and dropping it burning on people who looked like them, the Dene. In 1945, the uranium extracted form the land of the Dene was used for the atomic bombs that devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Burning Vision traces the history of uranium from the mining to the bomb. The play begins with an explosion. It ends with an explosion. And between these two bookends of fire, a chorus of voices emerges from distant corners of the globe.
In this mixed-cast, multilingual production, theatre artists from Canada and Catalonia have come together to discover a common voice. The play incorporates video, original live music, and an equal mix of Canadian and Catalan actors to embody a dream world that stirs us to action.
