In 1997, she wrote the song A força que nunca seca with César Chico. Maria Bethânia recorded it, and duly won a Latin Grammy for her version. She recorded her own album in 2002, a successful debut which was followed by a second disc, Essa boneca tem manual, in 2004, and a third, Sim, in 2007. Vanessa da Mata has always woven essential elements from Brazilian music, such as Bossa Nova and Carimbó de Pará, into her work. Over the years, moreover, she has also begun to blend sounds from different musical traditions to create a personal style that mixes pop, soul, reggae and much more.
