Xirriquiteula Teatre / ZeBU

A Catalan and a Danish company join forces to bring to the stage a family-friendly story that presents and humanises the realities of people who live on the streets.

A single performer on stage tells a story that is the first international co-production between the famous children’s theatre company Xirriquiteula Teatre and one of the most prestigious companies on the Danish family theatre scene: ZeBU. They have created a show, directed and co-written by Dutchman Marc van der Velden, about a woman who ends up living on the streets with the few possessions she has left: a double bass case and a few mementos. This homeless woman, played by Iolanda Llansó, will tell the audience the story of her life, an exciting life that can teach children how wrong we are when we look at the lives of homeless people with prejudice.

‘Go away!’, ‘Get outta here!’, ‘Scram!’ You may never have had these phrases hurled at you, but our main character has. The message of this play is the fragility and loneliness that haunts us as we grow older. It is a small tribute to all those women who put caring for others before their own personal success. And you’ll experience it in an intimate space, accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by Lola Ybran.

This is the new international show by Xirriquiteula Teatre, a company founded in 1985, which appeared at Grec 2011 with its production of Call me “Maria” and which was a hit with young audiences at Grec 2018 with Laika. Now they are working with ZeBU, a company founded in Denmark in 2010 with the aim of producing sensory, emotional and intellectually stimulating shows that create empathy, inspire awe and encourage children to think.

Co-produced by Grec 2024 Festival de Barcelona, Xirriquiteula Teatre and ZeBU.

For audiences aged 6 and up.
