Flamenco jazz, funk and soul, gypsy, pop-soul. You will find all this and more in the programme that a jazz club with a history stretching back more than 50 years has prepared for the 2017 Grec Festival in Barcelona.
Here you have a Latin jazz sextet touched by the Caribbean grace of Cadiz and put together in honour of one of the most original and extraordinary stars to have come from the planet jazz: Thelonious Monk. The set combines original pieces and compositions by the writer, shot through with the peculiar rhythmic feel in the melodies and the dissonant sophisticated harmonizations that were part of his unique personal style. Styles as different as Mozambique, merengue, guagancó, songo, bolero, danzón and reggae converge in this unashamed but respectful tribute, thanks to a really extraordinary sextet and to the multicolour fantasy evoked by the bay of Cadiz, a city that has seen so many ships arrive with cargoes of Caribbean rhythms and even the first jazz records to reach the peninsula.
