Tirant lo Blanc

Màrius Serra (based on Joanot Martorel workl) / Joan Arqué

This play proposes a Tirant of action and reaction based on the narrative pleasure of episodes that have fascinated generation upon generation of human beings over the course of more than five centuries.

The alternate telling of a classic written more than 500 years ago becomes a disconcerting mirror of the same conflicts that are shaking up the world today, as if its characters recognised themselves in the images reflected over these five centuries of gazes that cross each other from either side of the  Mediterranean.

Starting with princess Carmesina's presumed betrayal with the black gardener Lauseta, we trace the  adventures of the knight Tirant when his ship wrecks in the Mediterranean just off the Barbary Coast. Here in North Africa, first under the orders of the Emir and later arm in arm with his fellow survivor Plaerdemavida and Escariano, the king of Ethiopia,  Tirant begins his struggle to convert the infidels to Christianity, return to Constantinople to embrace Carmesina and free the empire of the Muslim threat. Between action and memory, the most epic episodes of the intrepid knight Tirant lo Blanc intertwine with the amorous foibles that besiege the characters in this colossal story.
A creation by the wordsmith Màrius Serra based on the text by Joanot Martorell, bringing new life on-stage to an immortal story. Joan Arqué directs a show performed by an outstanding cast of actors and the musician Judit Neddermann.
