Enric Montefusco & Buena Suerte

A musician who has also worked in the theatre, an experimental theatre company deeply engaged with music, a percussion group that sees music as ritual, a group of castellers that fuse tradition with creativity... These are just some of the features of a show that is formally innovative and conceptually sharp.

Enric Montefusco, leader of the Barcelona band Standstill, takes a corrosive autobiography and turns it into a striking, ritualistic spectacle in small-to-large format show that takes no prisoners, using everyday language whilst suggesting different levels of interpretation. Rich in dark humour, Tata Mala is at once a moving story and a social portrait with political implications. It is both unflinching protest and an appeal to human compassion. It is a show that drinks from tradition and an ultra-modern performance. It searches for a symbolic language that can provide a collective cure and narrates the story of a most personal tragedy.

All this, embodied in choral music, performed by musicians from different traditions, conducted by a prize-winning composer who specialises in the search for new languages, with one foot in the past and the other in the future.
