The concept behind Son de la Frontera, according to which all five members bring their own contributions to stimulate collective creativity, makes this a truly pioneering flamenco group. The album that Son de la Frontera will present in Barcelona is called Cal (“Whitewash”), after the material traditionally used to paint houses all over Andalusia. Cal shows the band continuing to develop and explore new possibilities, their own compositions creating distinctive new sounds that have brought audiences to their feet all over the world: from Italy to Belgium, from the US to Norway, from Mexico to France. Son de la Frontera were nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2007 and won the Best European Artist category in the 2008 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music.
