Accompanied by the music of Bach, Virgilio Sieni, a leading light on the Italian contemporary dance scene, shows why some have called him “the architect of the body”. Although he did not perform this work in public until 2001, Sieni had already used compositions by Bach as a means of exploring his own movement. The dancer himself confesses to seeing this particular piece as more of an invitation to thought and introspection than to dance. In it, Sieni reacts to the music – played live by a pianist – his delicate movements creating a choreography that manifests or represents weaknesses, imperfections and tension through the language of dance.
