Sofia Rei Koutsovitis

Singer and composer Sofia Rei Koutsovitis is the leader amongst a new generation of South American musicians whose works are based on emotive melodies, complicated orchestrations and folklore-based textures, fusing of South American rhythms and the most modern jazz harmonies. That is why musicians including Maria Schneider, Lionel Loueke, Bobby McFerrin and John Scofield have invited her to collaborate on their projects. To the rhythm laid down by her own words and music or compositions by the likes of Silvio Rodriguez and Pavel Urkiza, Koutsovitis will delight her Barcelona audience with a concert full of deep emotions and good vibrations. The show will feature both numbers from her debut album, Ojala (named amongst the top ten recordings in 2006 by the US Jazz Journalists Association) and new compositions from her sophomore release, Sube Azul (World Village), for this concert at Grec’09 comprises one of our first chances to hear her new material live.
