What does an audiovisual propaganda piece tell us about those who created it? Drawing on a variety of different research materials, including Islamist recruitment videos obtained by German secret service agents, Mroué asks what these videos tell us about their producers and their ability to engage young Islamists. Mroué also reflects on how this propaganda is processed by the state and society.
Through a film series at the Filmoteca and two conferences/audiovisual performances at MACBA, Focus Rabih Mroué offers an additional sample of the Lebanese artist’s creative universe, who will be presenting the performance Riding on a Cloud at Grec 2023 (17 and 18 July at the Teatre Lliure-Espai Lliure). Mroué will also take part in an artists’ workshop during his stay in Barcelona, as part of the Can Mamella Artistic Training and Research Summer School (13 and 14 July at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació).
