A North American singer-songwriter with a Goya prize to his name opens a season of concerts that eschews conventional repertoires. In this show, Josh Rouse will pay homage to the debut album by alt rockers Violent Femmes.
He was born in Nebraska but, since his father was in the army, he moved all around the USA. This no doubt explains the wanderlust of this pop and folk musician, whose music is deeply influenced by country rock and Californian sounds. Rouse has lived in Spain since 2005, releasing albums like Subtítulo and El turista and even scoring the soundtrack to Daniel Sánchez Arévalo’s film La gran familia española, winning a Goya (the highest film award in Spain) for one of his songs. In tonight’s show, besides performing his own work, Rouse will also devote the first part to paying tribute to a legendary band on the US alt music scene: Violent Femmes or, more exactly, their debut album (Violent Femmes, 1983). He discovered the disc as a teenager and it blew his mind, as they say, along with an entire generation. Now, Rouse will perform this sonic masterpiece accompanied by his band, The Long Vacations, in a show revisiting the very finest 80s rock.
