The frontman with La Troba Kung-Fú takes the stage with his band and members of a Valencian ensemble to seek the essence of the Mediterranean. Fire, festivity and... Moorish marches.
The bond between Joan Garriga, leader of La Troba Kung-Fú, and Enric Parreño, director of the ensemble Banda Simfònica de la Unió Musical d’Alaquàs, is one of mutual admiration. Garriga is fascinated by the repertoire and love of music demonstrated by an orchestral band founded in the tiny township of L’Horta de València, whilst Parreño delights in the fusion that La Troba have created. Both find inspiration in the Mediterranean, and both share a passion for the culture generated by music, festivity and purifying fire. Garriga, who was awarded the City of Barcelona Prize in 2007 in recognition of his ability to fuse (and confuse) Catalan rumba with a wide variety of other sounds, visits Valencia, returning to Catalonia with a rich baggage including sun dances, processions and Moorish marches. Expect bonfires and explosions, all to a musical beat.
