The voice of Mishima, a leading band on the Barcelona indie scene, opens the "Off the Record" season this year. This is not a conventional concert, but a unique chance to listen Carabén and his companions in a really different way.
Repertoire-wise, a musician like David Carabén, on the second year of a tour, begins to separate the wheat from the chaff. Honed to perfection on stage, the tracks from the band’s latest album have become mixed with songs from earlier efforts, finding their rightful places in Mishima’s live show. But now, in order to keep songwriting talent and ear for a good tune fully tuned as he writes the new songs for their next album, Carabén has reworked and created versions of songs from different periods and styles. His aim is to renew the sense that an infinite range of possibilities, styles and voices exist. By the by, he also examines his repertoire to see whether new sounds, arrangements or themes are needed and that have attracted the composer’s attention. We will find a little of all this in David Carabén’s “Off The Record” session. Accompanied by the rest of the group, he will perform adaptations of classics by great songwriters (Coward, Gainsbourg, Newman...), an old song or two that the band had left for dead and stripped-down versions or original reworkings of tunes from the current Mishima set-list.
