A dance and theatre company, with a long history of being fond of Barcelona, closes with a piece created in the city, their family trilogy after Vader and Moeder. Let’s look at the world with the eyes of a child.
We had already seen Le jardin or Le salon, but 32 rue Vandenbranden unleashed a word of mouth tsunami at the 2012 Grec Festival of Barcelona. And since then, the productions that the Belgian company Peeping Tom has brought over to the city have awakened expectations long before the curtain is raised. Not only is it because of the superhuman dominance of the body that some interpreters show, but especially because of the disturbing atmospheres with which they involve lucid reflections with humor. They take the form of hyper realistic images of dazzling beauty framed in especially suggestive sets. Whoever has seen them once does not miss next performance. It happened to viewers who saw Vader (Grec 2014), the first show of a family-themed trilogy that explored fantasies and reality in the mind of a father, now a grandfather, who has just been admitted to a residence. Two years later, Moeder would convey tones of tenderness and sarcasm with concepts such as motherhood and memory.
This year, finally, the trilogy is completed with Kind, a show dedicated to sons and daughters, those children who perhaps had small roles in previous productions but who now not only do they become protagonists but, also, the eyes through which the viewers will be able to see the world. Kind adopts the point of view of some children and teenagers with as many fears and desires as ourselves, with difficult choices ahead, anxiety, doubts, traumatic physical changes ... Everything happens in a scenography that suggests the unknown territory where the outside and the inner worlds of children are confused and combined, a forest with big trees and steep cliffs. It all has been achieved with the work of children and adolescents during the creation process and is accompanied by a remarkable sound setting. The show is jointly directed by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier, leaders of the company, who created the show with the Peeping Tom dancers and mezzo-soprano.
