Orpheus, the most famous musician and poet in the world, is devastated by the death of his beloved Eurydice. With the help of the Spiritcom, a virtual immersion machine, and accompanied by the power of his music, Orpheus embarks on a journey to Hades, determined to bring Eurydice back to life.
This is an odyssey in which genres ebb and flow, from mythical fables to contemporary chronicles, a descent into a world where virtuality generates a new paradigm for confrontation between life and technology. The border between reality and the metaverse dissolves and, in the face of the huge technological pressure, the demand arises for an urgent ethical review regarding the power of love, of art and of new immersive tools to come to grips with death and grief.
Insectotròpics continues with the live experimentation of its particular brand of media crossover, incorporating never-before-seen resources into its journey towards the refinement of its visual and sound bacchanal. The group’s own language, which identifies its creations, returns with more power than ever. As they have done in previous shows, Insectotròpics uses the technique of live cinema to narrate a story with all of the secrets of stage management exposed, using resources like automated cameras, plastic expression using paint and live digital manipulation. In this work, audio clips coming from audiovisual materials found on social media networks are juxtaposed with texts extracted from the diary of a member of the group, written during a personal experience of grief.
It is a multidisciplinary, surprising and extremely free performance in which the mixture of languages and media opens the door to infinite expressive possibilities. Orpheus, a prodigious musician, is accompanied on stage by Eurydice, a lovely expression of the world of opera. Both are the stars of a high-impact show, a mix between performance art, live art and a concert.
Authors of performances such as La Caputxeta Galàctica (2012), Compra’m (2015), The Legend of Burning Man (2017), and Cançó de Nadal (2020), Insectotròpics has taken their shows to countries and festivals on three continents and have graced the stages of the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Colombia, South Korea and Taiwan, among many others.
