Featuring a single performer and the audience turned into the cast, this show recreates a key moment in the class struggle in Barcelona in the late-1970s, in which the workers at the Numax factory played a crucial role.
Meetings, debates, demonstrations… The Numax story is one in which the workers take over an electrical appliance factory when the owners try to close the plant. The episode was made particularly well-known by Joaquim Jordà’s film Numax presenta (1980), which is still shown, even today. Roger Bernat, however, has gone one step further, reconstructing the Numax story with the aid of a sole performer, Núria Martínez-Vernis, and members of the audience themselves, who take part in the work, recreating meetings and works committee discussions. Meanwhile, the screen shows workers who appeared in Jordà’s film and others from the Fagor cooperative who were made redundant last year and also took part in this theatre project, describing their experiences and impressions before the camera. That is Numax-Fagor-plus: theatre without actors to narrate two parallel histories separated by more than thirty years.
