What has Gregori Samsa turned into? In this Icelandic company's innovative reworking of Kafka's novel, into an acrobat, no less.
Fantastic, terrifying, funny and also very sad. This is the story of that poor office worker who wakes up one morning completely transformed. Now, an Icelandic company retells the story, but in its own way; the main character will remain on stage throughout, whether in his bedroom or swinging from the rafters, in a demonstration of the sophisticated physical language that is the company’s trademark. Meanwhile, his family grow more and more horrified, their reactions enabling us to explore human nature and the way we react to extreme situations.
The music, created by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, helps to turn everyday reality into Kafka’s nightmare vision. All in all, this is a unique theatre experience, full of rhythm, on the subject of alienation, dehumanisation and fear of exclusion.
