Macha y el Bloque Depresivo

La Sala BARTS al Grec

Once again, the theatre at Parallel Avenue is a musical epicenter of the festival, offering a particularly diverse and stimulating programme that ranges from new wave to jazz, through pop and Brazilian sounds and songs.

Joy and pain are inseparable elements of the Latin soul and they are also in the songs of the Bloque Depresivo, a celebration of love for the Latino identity that can make the audience dance and cry at the same time. The project was born in 2007 when Macha, the singer of the Chilean band Chico Trujillo, dedicated to the new cumbia, and Tocori Berrú, bass player, founder of the band La Chilombiana, began to interpret, for pure desire to do so, Peruvian waltzes and some bolero. Those rhythms were leaked out in the concerts of Chico Trujillo, in some gigs that were baptized as the Depressive Block and that recover and return to the public those sounds so often adulterated and falsified by a record market that has mistreated them. Today, grandparents, parents, sons and daughters share the same passion for some beautiful songs that exude the most authentic and intense emotions.
