Pop, rock, soul, folk and a host of other rhythms, often clearly connected to roots music, fill the BARTS concert hall for four intense weeks in which women will play an important part.
Luar na Lubre, one of the most legendary Galician folk groups, has just turned 30, and they have celebrated it by releasing a double CD of their most popular numbers. They also want to celebrate it on stage and they have found some ideal travelling companions to appear before an audience hungry for Celtic rhythms. These are Capercaillie, a Scottish band formed in the 1980s that has brought the genre to new audiences, combining the most authentic tradition with rhythms and textures from pop and dance music.
