Recuerdos. La música de ayer y hoy

The female vocalist in Lole y Manuel, the duet that definitively launched flamenco fusion, revisits her beginnings and the finest moments in her career. The musical history of one of the purest, sweetest voices in modern flamenco.

That Lole Montoya should have become one of the most essential voices in flamenco today is no surprise, because she is amongst those artists that have done most to transform the Andalusian music scene. This she did alongside Manuel Molina, putting their own lyrics to cante jondo and making their music accessible to all audiences, not only the connoisseurs, with an extraordinarily versatile voice that won audiences around the country. This concert takes us on a journey through the musical memories of Lole Montoya, who was born into a family of flamenco artists and as a young girl shared the stage with such legendary performers as Perla de Triana and Camarón de la Isla. At her show at the Grec, she will revisit the finest moments in her career, including forays into music of Arabic origin that she knows so well and helped to make popular. But these memories made music are not exclusively Lole’s; they also belong to several generations of music lovers who found a gateway into flamenco through her interpretation of the genre.
