Leonor and Carla decide to get married in the gardens of Leonor's family home, coinciding with an astronomical event: a total eclipse that will leave the Earth in complete darkness for a few minutes, but will, at the same time, light up the couple's loving future.
The idea is for them to be married by the local mayor, an old friend and hunting companion of Ramon, Leonor’s father. However, due to a legal complication, the mayor cannot officiate and will have to be replaced by the only councillor available in this emergency situation: the one in charge of cemeteries. This means that the service must be moved from the gardens of Leonor’s home to the grounds of the town cemetery, with remarkable consequences for both the brides and their guests.
L’eclipsi is a musical theatre show in which the astronomical phenomenon also determines the development of the music. The light-filled joy of the Hour of the Angelus, which is when the action begins, gradually fades as shadows take over. The disappearance of the Sun introduces the gloomiest passages in a score that explores the darkest recesses of each character, until the light returns once more.
