Carme Cané and Rosa Maria Sardà philosophise whilst injecting plenty of humour into a play about life and death whose leading characters are the guardian angels of Albert Camus and Michel Gallimard.
The rules are clear: guardian angels must never get sentimental over their charges. However, Albert Camus’s guardian angel cannot get over the fact that the writer and thinker, who has died in a road accident with his publisher, Michel Gallimard, has been denied entry into the gates of Heaven. That is why he tries to persuade his colleague, Gallimard’s angel, to defend Camus in his stead in the trial to decide this question. For Camus’s refusal to believe in God and his theories about the absurdity of existence make this no easy task, and it will be necessary to cite the author’s works and the people in his life in order to build up an argument for his admission to Paradise. Life, death and the thought of Albert Camus, whose centenary falls this year, are the main themes of a play rich in intelligent dialogues and humorous wordplay. A new production from a duo of artists who have been working together for the last fifteen years: playwright Carme Cané and her co-director in this show, Rosa Maria Sardà.
