When the white smoke rose up the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, the world knew it had a new Pope, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, who would go down in history as Pius XII. But what he didn't know was that, alongside the Pope, the pontificate had a pope: a petite, pretty and brilliant nun called Sister Pascualina, who enjoyed unprecedented power. The Pope is the story of a woman who became more influential in Rome than the cardinals themselves, who referred to her as "the only real man in the Vatican".
