Gigi was born in a village in Ethiopia: traditional and religious music shapes his first sound learning. As a teenager, he moved to the capital, Addis Ababa, where he broadened his musical horizons by listening to local pop and American music. As a young man he went to live in Kenya, where he came into contact with different African music, and in 1997 he emigrated to the United States, where he discovered everything from jazz to country.
Under the effects of all this crossover of sounds, it's no wonder that Gigi's records are a real musical storm. Old Nile rhythms, contemporary jazz, African music, a new way of understanding reggae and Gigi's rich and vibrant voice are found in one of the most suggestive sound proposals today.
