Sílvia Pérez Cruz

Dance, theatre, film... These disciplines have all come together more than once during the singer's career. And they do so once again in a creative lab run by artists working in different fields that is a powerful celebration of interdisciplinarity.

Throughout her artistic career, Sílvia Pérez Cruz has brought her music to theatre productions and dance shows, has sung theme tunes for both fiction films and documentaries, and has drawn on poetry as the raw material for her compositions. Examples of her incursions into different art forms are films such as La noche de 12 años, by director Álvaro Brechner; the show Grito pelao, with dancer Rocío Molina (Grec 2018), and the compositions she created for the theatre production Cyrano, featuring Lluís Homar, or the original music for the acclaimed animated film Josep (Aurel, 2020). Based on these and other experiences with various artistic genres, last October Sílvia Pérez Cruz released Farsa (género imposible), an album that will now be performed on the stage of the Teatre Grec. Its title uses the word ‘farsa’, which comes from farce (‘stuffing’ in French), which originally referred to the short comic scenes performed between acts during plays at the court of Louis XVI. Today, ‘farce’ means, among other things, ‘false imitation’, hence Pérez Cruz's use of this word to refer to the duality between what we really are and our public face, between apparent wealth and the emptiness it conceals that is so characteristic of the times we live in.

The album now arrives on the stage of the Teatre Lliure, not in the form of a concert in the strictest sense of the word, but as a kind of multidisciplinary experience from which a team of artists working in different disciplines create a musical spectacle. This creative team includes dancer Elena Córdoba; playwright, actor and poet Pablo Messiez; set designers Silvia Delagneau and Max Glaenzel; painter, lighting designer and poet Carlos Marquerie; sound engineer and creator of sound spaces Juan Casanovas, and costume designer Cecilia Molano. In short, it is a diversity of talent that promises to turn the stage into a celebration of hybridisation.

An El Pez Cruz production.
