This year, La Nau Ivanow hosts three activities devoted to contemporary dramaturgy that combine education, debate and readings. The Obrador d'Estiu summer workshop at the Sala Beckett, the Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe project and the PIIGS Festival are three separate but interrelated initiatives that focus on one single theme: how to tell stories in today's world.
Awareness of the link between the stage and reality and concern for contemporaneity brought together the Perpetuummobile association, La Nau Ivanow and Sala Beckett / Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia in project in which five playwrights from the so-called PIIGS group (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) will each write a play about the current economic, social and institutional crisis in the de European Union. Events include a Young PIIGS Festival and a meeting-debate devoted to playwriting on the crisis, which forms part of the Obrador d’Estiu programme, amongst other initiatives.

Authors and participants are welcomed and the Festival officially opens. Presentation of the book of plays on the PIIGS crisis.
Friday, July 11
11 am – 1 pm Young PIIGS Festival
Meeting between the authors and young people taking part in the performing arts workshops organised at La Sagrera and Garcilaso civic centres from July 7-11. At the workshops, the young participants will stage an excerpt form each of the selected works.

3.30-5.30 pm Crisis? What Crisis?
Meeting-debate amongst playwrights on the theme of writing for the stage in times of crisis. And what better focal point for this meeting of authors than Supertramp’s famous album Crisis? What Crisis? Because we hope that the writers will exchange their personal visions of the crisis and its effects, but from a playful, ironic standpoint.
Featuring writers from both the nations involved and from other European and Latin America countries.

Debate about the crisis, with the guest authors: Armando Nascimento, Darren Donohue, Davide Carnevali, Maria Tranou and Ferran Joanmiquel. Other guests include Antonio Baños, journalist and writer, author of the book Posteconomía, Eliseu Carbonell, anthropologist, and Xavier Palos, member of XES, the Solidarity Economy Network.
