In a prison cell, three young criminals from very different backgrounds are forced to share the same place and time. One, accused of murder, awaits execution. The other two, imprisoned for theft, are about to be set free. In this prison cell and these three men in search of their masculine identity, Genet, the enfant terrible of 20th-century French literature, creates a metaphor of a repressed, closed world, violent and suffocating, a world inhabited by anguish, desire, tenderness and an oppressive lack of freedom.
