In Aranda, an Australian language, eraritjaritjaka means filled with longing for something that has been lost. Goebbels, a man with a personal, multidisciplinary concept of the visual, combined with an interest in experimentation, has revolutionised musical theatre. Here, he takes his inspiration from this Eraritjaritjaka, rediscovered by Canetti, and the result is a work that explores the relations between people and their environment, how we see the world and how we appropriate it. Using a mixture of words, music and video images, Eraritjaritjaka has seduced German, French and Scottish audiences, and has been acclaimed by the critics who, employing such adjectives as “virtuoso”, “dizzying” and “phenomenal”, have been completely won over by the visual fascination of this unusual technological thriller.
