Four South-American bands fill the Sala BARTS concert hall with the latest sounds from that continent. This is the third edition of a festival that fuses tropical music, global bass and electronica.
A night devoted to alternative sounds from countries like Mexico and Peru, amongst others, although, generally speaking, this is music based on tradition. Such is the case of La Calor, the band that opens the evening, an experimental ensemble that fuses Afro-Antillean sounds (salsa dura, guaguanco, latin jazz and so on) with electronica and instrumental hip-hop. Following this fusion of salsa and electronica, it will be time for the Mexican outfit Sonido Gallo Negro to take the stage. Sonido Gallo Negro rework 70s psychedelic and tropical music but with a “garage” sound. Acid cumbia guaranteed to have audiences dancing till they drop. Next up, the Peruvian electronic duo Dengue Dengue Dengue, play tropical bass with a show that makes seeing them live nothing less than an audiovisual experience: masks, neon lights, geometric patterns and props reminiscent of Shamanic traditions. Finally, topping the bill are Los gaiteros de San Jacinto, the result of a meeting between a band that are icons of traditional Colombian culture and a dub producer. Together, on the album Dub de gaita (El fin del mundo), they explore the roots of cumbia and bagpipe sounds, dubbed live by the brothers Diego and Juan Gómez, aka Mister Gómez Sound System.
