Many of the days' events kick off with a set by DJ Owey: one of the biggest names in black music on the Barcelona scene. His sessions are legendary and include the best black roots music.

With ‘Slapstick’ we transported a comic short film without a screen about a character waiting for a train to the street arts. Our personal tribute to silent films, with figures such as Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton or Harold Loyd as the main source of inspiration. A theater and clown dance show where bumps, falls and physically extreme and unlikely situations can be enjoyed live by the hand of a white comic character, who inspires tenderness and humor in equal measure. Thus, behind those gags that can make us laugh again as if we were children, we discover a great dose of humanity.

A fun, laid-back show with different artists, depending on the day. The master of ceremonies is Kerol, a unique artist who combines juggling with beatboxing. He will present a series of acts who take turns and sometimes come back on stage, including Senegalese dancer Anna Mbengue – who will be a recurring feature in the show – DJ Owey and his black sounds, modern dance from the Ku’dancin Afrobeatz collective, the Desconekt-A2 collective and their urban dance offering, and dancer and percussionist from Benin, Robert Dokponnou.

Azonto, afrohouse, kuduro, dancehall, ndombolo, coupé, décalé... Do you know these names? They are all styles of music and dance derived from afrobeat and get people moving in many African capitals. This is a space designed for playing these rhythms, getting people dancing to them and creating a community around music and dance, focusing on the urban beats of today’s Africa.
Contemplative poetry: an African landscape

Africa is beauty and poetry, as you will find out in this theatrical experience made up of different artistic pieces. This is a lyrical journey to the essences of Africa, starring artists and characters inspired both by the continent’s visual arts and the feelings given off by the people who live there. Among those taking part will be dancer and choreographer Anna Mbengue, amongst others. And they will be accompanied by zebras, African puppets and the loveable Sargon, who just got back from a trip to the continent. A show created for families and especially recommended for children from the age of 2 and those accompanying them.
African fashion
16 July, from 7:30 pm
Fashion is an especially evocative element of African culture and is characterised by bold colours and eye-catching patterns. Want to see it up close? Then head to Plaça de Margarida Xirgu and you will find a fashion show where African and Afro-descendant designers living in Barcelona will be showing us their creations.
