Exploring the relations between horses and humans, this show combines the mystery and spirituality of Bartabas’ equestrian theatre with butoh master Ko Murobushi’s domination of his body, which so greatly impressed audiences when he performed at the 2010 Grec Festival. This work focuses on the process of dressage, during which the horse is exposed to a deeper level of knowledge through interaction with the man, whilst the horse enables the man to revert to his animal instincts. Eventually, man and animal merge into one being, becoming the Centaur. As usual in Bartabas’ work, this piece drinks deeply from the most ancient, ancestral sources of artistic activity, whilst the power of the equestrian performance fuses with the intensity and depth of Murobushi’s artistic universe in an adventure that is rich in poetry and emotion.
