Desvarío

Two prominent figures in flamenco today and the flamenco combination of a double bass and a piano feature on the second day of a festival which turns the Plaza Mayor in Nou Barris into a stage programmed by the El Dorado association.

David Peña Dorantes and Renaud Garcia-Fons will open Friday night with Paseo a dos. Dorantes is an artist who grew up in the flamenco tradition and played guitar until he discovered the piano and began to experiment with the utmost freedom. David Peña Dorantes is, in fact, one of the most renowned international champions of flamenco piano. We will see him with Renaud Garcia-Fons, a double bass player born in Paris in 1962 who is a virtuoso of his instrument, which he has used to explore musical languages from all over the world, including Mediterranean beats and, obviously, flamenco. He has worked with the veteran guitarist Pedro Soler, with Gerardo Núñez and, like this time, with the innovative contemporary pianist David Peña Dorantes.

Friday 21 July will finish with a joint performance with the cantaora Esperanza Fernández and the guitarist Miguel Ángel Cortés, two of the greatest figures in flamenco today. She was born into a family of flamenco artists in Seville in 1966, and during her career she has applied the knowledge she gained at home, cross-pollinated with a versatility that has led her to grow incessantly as an artist. She is accompanied on the guitar by a musician who knew even as a child what he wanted to be when he grew up. He is Miguel Ángel Cortés, born in Granada in 1972 and a touchstone in flamenco today both when he performs alone and when he accompanies the singing.

Desvarío is the heir to the Flamenc a Nou Barris festival, which was founded in 2000 and came to an end after 17 editions. Now El Dorado S. F. B., in conjunction with the Technical Services of the Nou Barris District, have taken over the management and leadership of the new festival. El Dorado is a cultural association founded in 2007 with the aim of creating a stable venue for the promotion and dissemination of flamenco culture in Barcelona based on an understanding of flamenco as a modern popular art.

A co-production of the Nou Barris District and the El Dorado Sociedad Flamenca de Barcelonesa.

With the support of the 2023 Barcelona Grec Festival.
