Sala Montjuïc

Return of a Festival classic: film sessions accompanied by good music that turn the old moat, Fossat de Santa Eulàlia, into a large open-air cinema. Summer nights at Montjuïc Castle.

Concert with Alma Afrobeat Ensemble (8.45 pm)

The oldest Afrobeat band in Spain, with four albums on the market, who have toured Europe and the United States. Now they are producing a new album with Guinean artist Sia Tolno. Their style is modern Afrobeat, with a Fela Kuti and Tony Allen base but with an Antibalas or London Afrobeat Collective vibe and with a nod to electronica.

Screening of City of God (Brazil, 2002), by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund (10 pm)

Based on real events, this film paints a portrait of organised crime in Cidade de Deus, a violent suburb of Rio de Janeiro, between the late Sixties and early Eighties. It is one of the most surprising films of recent years, and has become a cult film in Latin American cinema.

Not recommended for spectators under 18.
