The dancer and choreographer Cesc Gelabert says that his dance is full of words. That is why his choreographies adapt so well to the work of Valère Novarina, an author, painter and stage director who places the word at the centre of his work.
The meeting between the Catalan dancer and choreographer Cesc Gelabert and the French artist and stage director Valère Novarina creates a space for action and transcendent thought as it generates a view of Europe seen from a state of artistic plenitude. The union between Gelabert’s mystical world, that of an artist who always dances to veiled words that reach the audience only in an abstract ways through the silence of movement, and Novarina’s philosophical universe, which emanates an inexhaustible torrent of hitherto-unseen language, enables the spectator to hear, for the first time, the words that secretly inhabit the dancer’s body when he dances. This “Written in the Air” suggests a ritual, the alchemical process in which the dancer dances the word and the writer writes the movement.
Escrit en l'aire is a dance work that brings together the talent of Gelabert, Novarina and Maicas. Cesc Gelabert is amongst the most renowned Catalan dancers and choreographers today, one who frequently collaborates with artists engaged in different fields, from the visual artist Frederic Amat to the filmmaker Isaki Lacuesta. Valère Novarina has created a body of innovative dramatic work that highlights the use of language, and Moisès Maicas is a well-known theatre director who has received such prestigious awards as the Adrià Gual National Prize Adrià Gual (with Teatre Invisible).
