A Barcelona casteller group celebrate their fifteenth anniversary by presenting an installation that uses the new technologies to enable visitors to feel what it is like to be a human pyramid builder.
It is a vertical structure in the form of a human pyramid, about 2.5 metres high and 3.5 wide, in which the castellers are replaced by 35 flat screens. These screens show the subjective view of each casteller, generating complete identification between what the castellers see and what the spectator sees. Viewing the video installation, the visitor will experience total immersion in the art of human pyramid building. In this way, all can share in the casteller values, such as hard work, teamwork and common sense, and also passion, balance, the strength of the group, and courage. The installation also includes a tarpaulin on the ground on which is printed a map of the pinya, or base, inviting spectators to enter the castell, form part of this base and add to the project by taking a selfie and posting it on the social networks.
Winner of the 2015 City of Barcelona Prize in the Popular and Traditional Culture.
