Flamenco jazz, funk and soul, gypsy, pop-soul. You will find all this and more in the programme that a jazz club with a history stretching back more than 50 years has prepared for the 2017 Grec Festival in Barcelona.
Carles Benavent is one of the indisputable stars of jazz and creative music in the last 50 years. A direct heir of Jaco Pastorius’s legacy, the unique sound of his bass has captivated everyone, including Chick Corea, Quincy Jones and Miles Davis, and he has been a true innovator in a genre, flamenco, with such deep roots. Since he started out in the late 1970s as part of the so-called ‘Laietana Sound’, Carles Benavent’s rise has been unstoppable. Now at the height of his evolution, he has simultaneously developed his most personal projects, such as this trio, featuring percussionist Roger Blavia and one of the most up-and-coming young hopefuls on the current jazz scene, pianist Roger Mas. A truly deluxe trio that welcomes the participation of the Catalan trumpeter living in Paris, Raynald Colom, and the rhythm and dancing of a master of the art, Tomasito
