Àngels Margarit, one of the great creative artists in contemporary dance today, gives the violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini's 24 capricci visible life and movement on stage.
On listening to this extraordinary virtuoso play in his day, many thought that Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840) had made a pact with the devil. None could equal his technique and skill, and a special case was made for him: he was one of the first violinists to perform solo concerts and to tour without accompanying musicians. The 24 capricci was one of his most outstanding works.
Now, Àngels Margarit takes up the challenge of playing this piece, not on violin, but on the bodies of a company of dancers who “draw” the music in space, creating a series of choreographies according to the musical structure of each different study. Apart from the virtuosism of the music itself, the series of twenty-four studies suggests a unique stage performance: the idea of the capriccio as a game, a divertimento, which runs through them all. This project, which first began at Grec 2013, is a modular proposal that also converts each performance into a capriccio.
