Flamenco jazz, funk and soul, gypsy, pop-soul. You will find all this and more in the programme that a jazz club with a history stretching back more than 50 years has prepared for the 2017 Grec Festival in Barcelona.
A jazz manouche session by one of the finest performers in this style today, Biel Ballester from the Balearic Islands, who could easily have been a member of the gypsy community in Paris in the 1930s, when Django Reinhardt held audiences spellbound with his jazz acoustic guitar. Ballester, who was born a few decades later, charmed the film director Woody Allen, but he also captivated musicians like Biréli Lagrène, Babik Reinhardt and Angelo Debarre, and the label Refined Records, with which he made a live recording in London. An incomparable curriculum for a gypsy jazzman who remains true to tradition but keeps an open mind.
