ATRESBANDES (Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia, Albert Pérez Hidalgo)

What is the relationship between everyday things and great events, between the smallest of things and those that are truly epic? This is the question posed by a company that asks you to take a new look at reality.

As you know, life is not only made up of great events. In reality, we live among everyday things, things which don't seem to have any particular importance or anything that might make them worthy of our attention. But great events hover above this map of recognisable everyday situations, sometimes tragic elements that either contain the seeds of that everyday reality or that influence and interact with it, with those events that French writer Georges Perec described as “infra-ordinary”. What is the relationship between these great events and the smallest and apparently most inconsequential experiences? This show explores that question. It invites the audience to apply what they call the “patience of the voyeur”, in order to observe from their seats a series of superimposed everyday situations that eventually reveal their connection to a great event. This leads to the audience seeing things from a new perspective, from an aesthetic-political perspective of the world, discovering that events and situations don't just occur out of the blue, but rather provide material for reflecting on a reality that we need to relearn.

The show is performed by the ATRESBANDES performing arts company, formed when Mònica Almirall, Miquel Segovia and Albert Pérez Hidalgo met at the Institute of Theatre. Since 2011, all three artists have been creating theatre that explores various disciplines and experiments with form to create stage performances in a range formats and with a variety of different themes. With each new project, the company’s creative force is transformed, with the performers themselves and their creativity always being a constant. Their shows include Solfatara, Locus Amoenus o Coda (Grec 2019) and more recently, It don’t worry me (winner of the Noves Tendències 2021 Best Show Award) and a work freely adapted from the H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds (Teatre Lliure, 2021).
