“Anti-Fascist Sessions at the Antic Teatre”

  • Escena híbrida
  • Grec en obert

This year, the Antic Teatre, a venue dedicated to the most daring and critical contemporary productions, was focusing on the anti-fascist and anti-racist struggle while denouncing the advance of the far right.

A politicised scene that ranges from the international to the local arena: this is what the theatre on Carrer de Verdaguer i Callís champions. The theatre is offering a series of Anti-Fascist Sessions, an online programme for meeting, reflection and action that highlights how socio-political authoritarianism is threatening the people living in Brazil, under the neo-fascist government of Jair Bolsonaro, and how this still resonates in the memory who those who lived through Franco's dictatorship. This is achieved through video performances, round tables and film forums.

It all starts on Friday 3 July, with the opening of “The Antic Teatre at Grec 2020: Anti-Fascist Sessions” and Brazil Hijacked. This latest Antic Teatre programme will also include:

Cuidado com aquele bizarra
Princesa Ricardo Marinelli
Duration: 90 min (presentation, performative lecture and round table)

Brazil 2020. Nothing makes sense. Everything seems to be a one-way street of violence and stupidity. From this starting point, Princesa suggests performing phobias as the idealogical basis of Bolsonarism, censorship and self-censorship, and the hijacking of contemporary performing arts to unite and strengthen Brazil's ultra-conservative militancy. In the midst of the atrocities, what can the body in action say or do? Does continuing to think about art make any sense? Or about dance? Or about performance?

Souvenirs. Vol. II. Els aterrits, els revoltats
The Antic Teatre's community arts group, with local residents from the neighbourhood
Director: Marta Galán
Duration: 90 min (presentation, documentary and round table)
Languages: Catalan and Spanish
An audiovisual creation based on the theatrical exploration undertaken by local residents in the Antic Teatre's community arts project, based on the question: “What scars do war and fascism leave on people's minds and bodies?”. In order to answer that question, the project's leaders used a methodology they call “the archaeology of everyday things”. This is a living-memory theatrical process (now audiovisual) that is constructed on stage (now on screen), based on documents, photographs and objects from the past. It is about becoming collectively aware of the way in which war and fascism tear apart people's lives and leave indelible marks. Narrating in order to give new meaning and heal.
