This year’s winning actress will be announced in a ceremony in Molins de Rei on Monday 6 July. The award itself, an exclusive personalised ring, will be given a week later in the Barcelona square which bears the name of Margarida Xirgu.
The Margarida Xirgu Memorial Theatre Award is celebrating its 46th anniversary. This is the oldest theatre prize, awarded by audiences, in the entire Spanish State. Forty-six editions of awards for performances by actresses who have premièred works in Barcelona’s theatre halls, necessary accomplices, working to open doors and make live art possible.
In a troubling year for the world of the stage, recognition for the theatre profession, in particular the Maragarida Xirgu Award, constitute a true act of resistance.
