Work gets under way to renew the escalators in Montjuïc
Work is now under way to renew the 22 escalators up and down the more monumental side of Montjuïc. Work will be carried out up until 24 December to replace escalators 9 and 10, which lead from C/ Guàrdia Urbana up to Passeig de Jean Forestier.
The first unit to be replaced will be escalator number 9, which starts in C/ Guàrdia Urbana and goes up to a first level in Passeig de Jean Forestier. The next escalator will be number 10, which covers the next section to reach the upper level of the same street. While the work is in progress to replace these two escalators, users will need to use the steps next to the escalator to cover this section.
The day that the materials arrive for escalator 9, the right-hand lane at the turn in C/ Guàrdia Urbana towards Passeig de Santa Madrona will be closed to traffic for loading and unloading purposes. An alternative route will be offered, controlled with manually operated signs, and parking will not be allowed in the vicinity. The crane will also occupy part of the pavement, with workers controlling the flow of pedestrians too when the arm of the crane is operating.
With the loading and unloading process for escalator 10, the crane will be installed in Passeig de Jean Forestier, gaining access from the other side, basically from Avinguda dels Montanyans. Workers operating signs will only need to control the movement of pedestrians at that point.
