Understanding Gender in Global Cultural Policy

Research presented during the academic congress session “Diversities I: The construction of gender as a challenge of the first order for cultural policies”.

Author: Jaslyn Reader (Alumni Deakin University, Society of Gender Professionals).

The study uses a post-structuralist feminist and international-relations focus, and the WPR ("What's the Problem Represented to be?") approach to examine the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. It aims to understand how women have created in a discursive and subjective way, and how this provides or excludes space for gender equality.
