"Teresa Solar Abboud. Somni màquina d'ocell": an exploration through sculpture and language
An exhibition that traces the different creative stages of one of the most innovative artists of the moment.
MACBA presents until 9 March 2025 the exhibition Somni màquina d'ocell by Teresa Solar Abboud (Madrid, 1985). This exhibition, which comes after its first phase at the CA2M Museum in Madrid, offers a fascinating journey through the artist's work, which explores the relationship between matter, language and the body through sculpture, drawing and technology.
Curated by Tania Pardo, director of the CA2M, and Claudia Segura, head of the MACBA collection, the exhibition is presented as a combination of large and small immersive sculptures, accompanied by drawings, workbooks and videos. Through this group of works, the visitor is invited to explore the conceptual paths that have defined the artist's career, from his beginnings in video-graphic experimentation to his latest sculptural installations, which are presented as a dialogue between the architecture of the museum and its own artistic language.
One of the peculiarities of this project is the way in which the artist transforms the exhibition space, creating a unique atmosphere that not only shows the artworks, but also interacts with the public. Teresa Solar Abboud states that when she works in a space, she tries to understand how it affects her, in order to create a connection with the people who pass through it. This relationship with space is key to understanding her creative process and her focus on experimenting with unusual materials and forms inspired by nature, science fiction and ancient art.
With more than seventy items covering different stages of her career, Somni màquina d'ocell highlights the complexity of Solar Abboud's work, in which sculptural installations enter into dialogue with other practices such as drawing and video art. The exhibition reflects her constant research into the resistance of language, the emptiness and the morphology of the body, themes that run through all her work and which, through her sculptures, turn the public into an active part of the artistic process.
This exhibition, a co-production between CA2M, MACBA and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Torino, highlights Teresa Solar Abboud's impact on the contemporary art scene. With exhibitions at international institutions such as the Venice Biennale and Liverpool, her work continues to consolidate itself as one of the most important on the current scene.
Until 9 March 2025, visitors to MACBA will be able to discover the world of Teresa Solar Abboud, one of the most innovative and influential artists of her generation.
