A concert at UB Gardens last year

Summer nights at the UB gardens

Four artists, including the Mallorcan Reïna, provide the soundtrack to July evenings by Plaça Universitat’s venue.

A summer night surrounded by plants and good music. Can you imagine a better plan? That's what they're proposing at University of Barcelona where, this July, for four nights they're opening their splendid gardens, a green roof in the centre of the city, and they're trying to make the plants grow (and your satisfaction) with music produced by some of the best local indie and electronic pop bands. From 9 to 18 July, Vespres d'Estiu at UB gardens.

It all starts on Tuesday, 9 July with Reïna. The band from Manacor appears in front of the Barcelona audience to present five songs that make up Retirada a temps, their second album, applauded by critics and audiences alike, with a sound that brings to mind the eighties and nineties and with critical lyrics, the kind that makes you think. With them, the young Erxart Casas Llargués (sure to play Lluny d'aquest món), winner of the Sona UB competition.

Come to the gardens on Thursday, 11 July, and you will find the Intergalactic Minibus (in the photo, among the vegetation). Maybe Pau Riba has been reincarnated? You'll think so, because everything here sounds like the sixties and seventies, and folk, pop and rock are all steeped in psychedelia. With them, another of the winners of Sona UB, the Bons nois, will open the evening.

The next event, on Tuesday, 16 July, will bring to the gardens a singer-songwriter from Cardedeu, Ariox. The artist's first album has been awaited for a long time and now it is out and has a sad title, Ariox is super sad, but it breathes freshness and intimacy. Come and see her fuse singer-songwriter pop with electronic music and other disciplines such as writing, drawing and illustration. The concert will be opened by the young LAIALAIA.

The cycle ends on Thursday, 18th July, with a performance by Alba Morena, a great artist who perfectly knows the territories of jazz, classical violin, lyrical music and, especially, flamenco. She combines all these styles in performances that take the form of electronic pop. You will see her just after the performance of another emerging artist: elo.

If you want to enjoy a summer full of music, come to the concerts of the UB's Vespres d'estiu, organised by L'Alfluent. Before you come, however, check the website for all the information about the cycle.
