The sewers of Barcelona

Welcome to a unique underground adventure!

Visits to Barcelona's sewers are included in the project to learn about the city's water cycle and are offered periodically as part of the programme of four-monthly activities offered by the municipal facilities.

If you like to discover cities from other points of view, the tour The bowels of the city: a visit to the sewers of Barcelona is a unique opportunity to find out first-hand what lies beneath the streets you walk through. This is a route through the only section of Barcelona's sewers that can be visited, allowing you to discover the secrets hidden in these pipes, which are so important in the water cycle. The sewer network guarantees hygiene and public health, prevents possible flooding and facilitates the purification of wastewater.

In the context of the current drought, it makes more sense than ever to reflect on the importance of water as a scarce commodity and the co-responsibility we have in maintaining this resource, the vital role sewers play in the functioning of the city and how they contribute to maintaining public health and environmental sustainability.

Water culture can be one of the responses to the challenges posed by climate change and the consequences it has on people's daily lives. This is why this proposal comes from the Fàbrica del Sol, an environmental education facility promoted by Barcelona City Council's Department of Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility, which coordinates with other municipal facilities, such as the Civic Centres Network, to bring the strategic vision of the city to all citizens.

The Vallvidrera Vázquez Montalbán Civic Centre is organising this route, which will take place on 5 July at 11.30 am. It is a free activity, but it is necessary to register in advance through this link or by contacting the civic centre by phone (93 406 90 53) or email informacio@ccvazquezmontalban.com.
