The Museu de la Música celebrates Ancient Music Day with an open-door event

To generate social awareness of the value of music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. This is the aim of the European Day of Ancient Music which, like every year, takes place on 21 March in parallel with the anniversary of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. A day dedicated in body and soul to music where its importance is demonstrated with simultaneous concerts and events all over Europe. 

Museu de la Música de Barcelona has joined this celebration with an open day to enjoy one of the best collections of instruments on the continent. When will it be? Well, on 21 March itself, from 10:00 to 19:00. A day to pay tribute to classical music with a live journey through the instruments that allow us to learn first-hand about the history and culture of the world. 

There are more than 500 instruments on display at this open day, and all of them have the capacity to safeguard in their essence the traces of the people who made them and used them to compose such revealing and sentimental pieces of music. From the cello of Pau Casals to a saragui from India, you will have the opportunity to observe, while listening attentively to pieces full of meaning and emotion. 

The European Day of Ancient Music became official in 1982, when, for the first time, a group of musicians took to the streets to celebrate this date in order to entertain the public, regardless of the musical genre; a fact that opened the door to urban music, rap or techno. Moving forward in time, you have the opportunity to celebrate this year's European Music Day with a visit to the Barcelona Music Museum, a unique experience for all music lovers.
