Els herois del Palau: una visita que recorda els herois que van erigir el Palau de la Música Catalana

More than artisans, heroes

Palau de la Música opens its season of visits with a tribute to the professionals who contributed to its construction.

Ceramicist, sculptor or mosaicist. These are not only professions characterised by craftsmanship, but there are people behind them. Heroes who worked to give shape and beauty to one of Barcelona's most emblematic buildings: the Palau de la Música. Els herois en la construcció del Palau is precisely that, a tribute that aims to highlight the figure of all the craftsmen who put all their talent into shaping this majestic concert hall.

This is the first visit in the Mirades del Palau cycle, which inaugurates the 2024-2025 season with the slogan La música més humana. Heroes in the construction of the Palau is to take a closer look, to contemplate the surroundings and to reflect, while emphasising the importance of the applied arts and, above all, of the professionals behind each mosaic, each stained-glass window and each wall of the Palau.

Palau de la Música was an incredible undertaking, completed in just three years. An almost impossible goal that ended up becoming an effective reality thanks to the meeting of the best professionals of the time, such as the mosaicist Mario Maragliano and the ceramist Lluís Bru, as well as the suppliers Josep Orriols and Modest Sunyol. This visit, which lasts approximately 50 minutes, allows visitors to contemplate the ornamental sculpture, including the muses created by Eusebi Arnau, and to see the musicians on the façade and the sculptured arch of the stage by Dídac Masana Majó and Pablo Gargallo.

Palau de la Música Catalana was built by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner as the home of the Orfeó Català and, since its inauguration in 1908, it has become an unavoidable meeting point in the social life of Catalan culture. Moreover, it is the only concert hall declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, making it a key piece of popular heritage.

If you would like to discover the Palau de la Música from the point of view of its creators, we invite you to find out more information and purchase tickets on the Palau's website.
